Why Did They Give?

Why Did They Give? 1 Chronicles 29

1. God’s People Give Because We Delight In God’s House. 

Vs. 3 “Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the house of my God over and above all that I’ve provided for the holy house.”
 

2. God’s People Give Out of Celebration Not Obligation. 
Vs. 6 “Then the leaders of the households, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.”
Vs. 17 “I have willingly given all these things with an upright heart, and now I have seen your people who are present here giving willingly to You.”
Vs. 9 “Then the people rejoiced because of their leaders’ willingness to give, for they had given to the Lord with a whole heart. King David also rejoiced greatly.”
 

3. God’s People Give From Their Hearts.
Vs. 9 “Then the people rejoiced because of their leaders’ willingness to give, for they had given to the Lord with a whole heart. 
 

4. The Giving of God’s People is God-Driven, God Centered, and God-Exalting. 
Vs. 10-11 “Then David praised the Lord in the sight of all the assemble. David said, May you be praised, Lord God of our father Israel, from eternity to eternity. 11. Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the splendor and the majesty, for everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to You. Yours, Lord is the kingdom, and You are exalted as head over all.”

5. God’s People Give Because They Know That God is The Owner and They Are The Steward.
Vs.14,16 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from You, and we have given You only what comes from Your own hand. 16. Yahweh our God, all this wealth that we’ve provided for building You a house for Your holy name comes from Your hand; everything belongs to You.”

6. God’s People Give Because It Pleases God.
Vs. 17 “I know, my God that You test the heart and that You are pleased with what is right.
Vs. 1,3 “The task is great because the temple will not be for man but for God.”
3. “Now who will volunteer to consecrate himself to the Lord today?”

Philippians 4:8
“finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, whatever is excellent, whatever is praiseworthy, think on these things.”

Four Major Contributors to Negative Thinking
1.  Self-Pity
2. Blaming
3. Unwillingness to Change
4. Anger and Bitterness
 

1. Is It “True”?
2. Is It “Noble”?
3. Is It “Right”?     In conformity to God’s standards.
4. Is It “Pure”?
5. Is It “Lovely”?
6. Is It “Admirable”?
7. Is It “Morally Excellent”?
8. Is It “Praiseworthy”?

1. Renew Your Mind.
                                             Romans 12:2
            “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so             that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”
2. Set Your Mind.
                                            Colossians 3:2
                            “Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.”
3. Surrender Your Mind.
                                     2 Corinthians 10
                          4. since the weapons of our warfare are not worldly, but are powerful through                           God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments 5. and every                               high-minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, taking every                              thought captive to obey Christ.

I. Don’t Allow Stress to Rule Over You.
Vs.6 “Don’t worry about anything”

(A) Worry is Unreasonable.
 

B) Worry is Unnatural.
(C) Worry is Unhealthy.
(D) Worry is Unnecessary.
II. Rejoice, Be Happy in Difficult Times.
Vs.4 “Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice!
1. Rejoicing always is a matter of Focus.
2. Rejoicing always is a matter of Work.
3. Rejoicing always is a matter of Faith over Feeling.
III. Strive to Live a Gentle Life.
Vs. 5 “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”
(A) When I am not gentle in nature, I display an ugly Testimony.
(B) When I am not gentle in nature, I forget God’s Agenda.
(C) When I am not gentle in nature, I’m no longer living in God’s Image.
(D) When I am not gentle in nature, I live under Divine Conviction.
IV.  Pray Like You Really Mean It.
Vs. 6. “But in every situation, by prayer and petition.”

(A) If it’s not worth praying about, it’s not worth worrying about.
(B) Don’t talk to yourself about the situation. Always be talking to God.
(C) Prayer opens my eyes.
Romans 8:32
He did not even spare His Own Son
but offered Him up for us all;
how will He not also with Him grant us everything?
